Fun Scary Stuff
We have created Fun Scary Stuff as a place where you may experience fright in a safe enviornment. This is why we visit the scary fun-house on Halloween. The ghost jumps out at us and we scream---and laugh. We laugh because we feel relief over the obviously phony situation.
We oohh and aahh at the little ghosts and and goblins that appear at our doorstep to receive treats on Halloween. then we don our costumes and attend the neighborhood party . I go as the dashing masked Zorro with my sword and cape and my wife goes as the masked Wonder Woman with her wonderful lariat. We each get to act out for a brief time some of the fantasy connected with these characters-- in a fun enviornment.
Movies also play an important role in our fun scary stuff experiences. I remember 'Bud Abbot And Lou Costello Meet Frankenstein' as a fun scary movie from my early childhood. As we moved on to less innocent times the fun scary movies changed too. We had 'Night Of The Living Dead'. There were few laughs in this movie. Though, some of the zombies appeared to be so grotesque as to be humorous. For me, the last great scary movie was 'Nightmare On Elm Street'. This movie was pure fright from anticipation of what was to happen next. Feel free to disagree with my choices, and choose your own own fun scary stuff movies.
It would be impossible to list all the fun scary stuff books. There are books on hauntings, scary dark rituals and haunted places. Then you have the great books on Frankenstein and Dracula, and all the works of Stephen King. I believe Ray Bradbury should be listed here for his wonderful work 'Something Wicked This Way Comes'.
There is one element in all this fun that is seldom talked about. When all is said and done ghosts are---returning dead people. It is perhaps our fear of the unknown that is largely responsible for our interest in what lies beyond life. Fun scary stuff allows us to deal with the unknown in a safe and controlled manner.
We will touch here on places reported to be centers of activity for hauntings. We will also introduce you to a relatively new movement called Urban Exploration. This involves the physical investigation of abandoned places such as insane asylums, prisons and other sites. The fright is in the anticipation of what lies beyond that door, or down that dark stairwell.
In the end we hope you experience Fun Scary Stuff as a place where you can enjoy the fright experience and -perhaps- learn something about yourself in the process. Welcome to Fun Scary Stuff.

We are all aware that in major cities around the world you will find areas of decay and ruin. Some of these are being visited by urban explorers. London, being on of the largest cities in existence, has many such areas. This site does a great job of bringing us pictures of urban blight and history. You can visit the bunker where Winston Chruchill was to be housed in the event of invasion by Germany. Here also is the building with its bunkers where General Eisenhower planned the D-Day invasion of Europe. Come with us on a visit to a London where you may find some fun scary stuff which is not quite like the guide books. Join us at Derelict London.
