Museum Of Trains

train 2

Many of us have a fascination for a museum of trains. I remember as a child the lonesome sound of the steam whistle on the engine as it neared the train crossing at the edge of town. What a wonder of mechanics these iron behemoths were. I worked on the railroad (the New York Central) as a signalman when I was a young man. My first day on the job the foreman took me out on the track, put his arm around my shoulder and said...."train can't stop, train can't turn, keep off the track." Working there I realized you really can't hear the train coming until it is almost on top of you. Your first clue is the fact that the rail starts 'clicking' as the engine nears. That sound always made my hair stand on end. Come with us as we visit some of the great railroad museums.

the Canadian Railway Museum is one of the few rail museums that allow the visitor to experience rail travel first hand. there is a garden train which operates daily, and streetcar rides when the weather permits. An added ride attraction is the passenger train which gives the visitor an opportunity to take a short trip on the railroad on each Sunday. the museum of trains was created in 1961 and has played host to several hundred thousand guests, young and old. The Canadian Railway museum has the largest collection of railway equipment in canada. come with us as we visit the Canadian Rail Museum

Canberra Australia Railway Museum contains a fine museum of trains exhibit of Australian rail equipment. located in an old rail yard, visitors may walk through the yard viewing the wonderful collection of rolling stock. There are locomotives, electric engines, passenger cars, freight cars, and a variety of track maintenance cars. guided tours are available. The rolling stock collection contains the small #1210 built in 1878, and the huge 265 ton Beyer-Garrat steam locomotive, among others. There are several train rides available of varying distance. This is truly one of the worlds finest rail musuems. Please visit the Canberra Rail Museum

The B&O Railroad Museum is located at ground zero of the railroad industry in the United States. This is the site of the first railroad tracks in the western hemisphere. visitors can ride on the very tracks that were laid in the 1800s here in Baltimore Maryland. The rails shops here were established in 1829 and represent the oldest continually operating rail repair shops in the world. Some of the historic buildings here are: The Mt. Clare depot (1851), Round House 1884, Passenger car works 1869, and the freight car repair shop (in ruins 1919). This is a great museum of trains and amarvelous collection of American railroading. All aboard at the B&O Railroad Museum
