PI Spy Detective
I worked for a time as a photographer PI Spy Detective for a private investigation firm. My job was to photograph people doing things they were not supposed to be doing. One time I had to gain entrance to a private party being held at a restaurant, to photograph a guy who was there with his girl friend. I went to the restaurant and was stopped at the entrance to the room where the party was being held. The man at the door asked me for my ticket. I told him I was there to photograph the party. He said he didn't know if he should let me in or not. So I said that's ok....I'll just tell my boss you wouldn't let me in. He hesitated...... then said ok go on in.
I had two cameras with me. One had no film in it. Fortunately as a PI Spy Detective I noticed everyone was wearing name tags so I could identify my subject. I just went around the room firing off the flash on the empty camera at people. When I got to my subject I took the picture with the loaded camera and left the party.

The point of this tale is to illustrate one of the cardinal rules of a PI.......always act as if you belong where you are.....if you do this few will question you.
The job is not always this dramatic. I have spent many a night sitting in my car waiting for some guy to get done with his bimbo at the local motel. Also much of the photographic work is done with long range telephoto lenses. Sometimes you can use the trick cameras that remind us of spy equipment for close up work.
I have always been a gadget minded person. Anyone who is a serious photography hobbyist and PI Spy Detective will probably admit to a liking for different kinds of spy equipment. The PI business is the perfect line of work for this type of person.
One of the jobs I was sent on was to photograph a person who was suspicious of everyone. He was in the habit of taking his lunch to a park and sitting on a bench in a small tree enclosed area on one of the paths in the park.
I dressed as a jogger and spent several days jogging past his lunch area while he ate. Each time I would stop and light a cigarette and take a few fake drags on it, put it out and resume my jogging. On the fourth day I stopped pulled out my cigarette and pretended to light it with my fake cigarette lighter. After acting like the lighter didn't work, I went on my way with several pictures of him intact inside my spy equipment cigarette lighter camera.
